Honey Gochujang Sauce (… and wings)

DSC04997

It has been forever and a day since my last post! From injuring my back, recovering, Friendsgiving, re-injuring my back, Thanksgiving, low-key Christmas, New Year’s, and birthday celebrations… I guess you can say I’m back. Oh I forgot to add that I was sick for weeks!

Tim has been doing most of the cooking and baking at home, which has been nice for both of us. He’s learning and I get to relax. He’s been using the blog, which now has a new purpose! I didn’t realize how beneficial this blog would be in our lives and it’s proven to be so valuable these last few months!

I do miss being in the kitchen, so with today being Super Bowl Sunday, I thought I’d muster up all the energy I could and try to create as many dishes as possible. I’m exhausted and don’t think I had a full meal all day since we’ve been grazing. I’ve yawned about a dozen times since I laid on the couch and am about ready for bed.

Side note about this dish – it’s really about the SAUCE because you can put it on anything!

HONEY GOCHUJANG SAUCE (…& wings)

INGREDIENTS (yields 3/4 cup)

  • 1/3 cup Gochujang paste
  • 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1/3 cup organic honey
  • 1/4 cup canola or vegetable oil + 2 tbsp
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 1lb party wings

PREPARATION

  1. Heat oven to 375°F
  2. Coat wings with 1/4 cup oil and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Place on baking sheet and bake in the oven for 20 – 25 minutes.
  4. In a small bowl, add Gochujang, rice vinegar, honey, salt, pepper, and 2 tbsp of oil. Mix well.
  5. You can use this as a marinade or basting sauce for your meats. I generally like to use it with fish, but I only had wings today, so I figured that would work. If you want to use this as a sauce to put over salads or already cooked items, I suggest you cook it further on the stove in a small pot until it slightly thickens up.
  6. Take out wings from the oven and coat it in the sauce. Place back on sheet and bake for another 5 – 10 minutes longer until it starts to caramelize on the sheet pan.

I can’t guarantee that I won’t have another blogging hiatus, but I’ll try to post more now that I’m feeling a little better with each day.
